Why should I choose Clapham Lacrosse Club over another London club?
Because we're committed to giving every member access to:
* A no cliques club. A successful sports club relies on its loyal members. Loyalty can only be earned by a club that makes sure everyone is welcomed, happy and getting out what they put in.
* Competitive lacrosse. Intermediate, pro, or a tad rusty, there'll be every opportunity for committed players to enjoy match time in either the Premiership, Division 1 or Division 2.
* Professional and engaging weekly training sessions. Our coaches and the most experienced players run fast-paced, fun sessions that will sharpen your skills (or help you learn new ones), help you stay/get fit and give you a good reason to leave work on time at least once a week.
* A club as sociable as you. Turn up, play, and stick around for post-match pizza in the pub if you haven't got plans. Organise a night out when you fancy it and expect the usual Christmas, pre- and end-of-season parties, and festival fun.
How do I join Clapham Lacrosse club?
Just get in touch with us via our Contact page. One of our lovely committee members will get back to you, answer any questions you have and make sure you feel welcome at your first training session. Come and try us out - your first two sessions are free.
How much is membership and what does it cover?
Membership is £170 for the 2023/24 season and covers the cost of coaching, training, refereeing and match pitch hire. The only extras are your travel costs to training (zone 1) and matches/tournaments etc (mostly London-based).
Where and when do Clapham Lacrosse train?
Our usual training pitch in Kennington Astro (SE11 4BY) is currently being resurfaced. We aim to be back here by mid October 2023. Until then training will take place at Sacred Heart Academy (SE5 0RP) Please see the map on our Locations page. There are always loads of people travelling to training from around London, so contact us if you'd like someone to meet you at the tube and show you the way
I've never played lacrosse before, can I join?
Sorry but we are unable to support beginners at the moment.
Do you have a coach?
Joss Robinson is our coach for 2023-24, Joss plays for Wales and has 46 caps for them, most recently at the 2022 World Championships. Joss will coach the teams on a Tuesday evening, bringing fun competitive challenges. If you are interested in coaching Clapham Lacrosse or know someone who might be, please get in contact via Contact page.
Do I need my own kit to play?
You will need your own stick, mouthguard and boots to play matches (trainers or astro boots are fine for training). We've got club, reversible bibs for you to wear for matches and if you decide to stick with us, you can buy one of your very own, complete with surname and number; we have other kit to get your hands on too. Please wear navy or black shorts/skirt/skort/leggings for matches.
Will I have the opportunity to play matches?
We have two teams in the South East League; one in Premiership and one in Division 1. We also compete in various one-day tournaments during the season. There's plenty of opportunity for all members to play.
I'm a member, how do I sign up to be selected to play in matches?
Sign up for matches on Teamer by letting us know your availability - it's a sports website and app that makes keeping track of matches really simple for everyone. Visit the Teamer page for more details.
Do you play all year round?
The lacrosse season is from August – April. During this time we train every Tuesday evening 7.45-9pm and play matches on Sundays. During the summer months we run informal training on Clapham Common and take teams to weekend tournaments like Bluesfest.
How do I change my availability status on Teamer?
Open Teamer and click on the game in question. Click 'View line up' and scroll to find your name. Click on the three dotted lines to the right of your name and click 'change to decline' or 'change to accept' (watch that you only select your name and not the other players above or below you).
What is your current stance on COVID-19?
The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport has approved Lacrosse England’s Return to Play plan, which brings us closer to the resumption of competitive lacrosse, however it must be noted that this is not a return to usual play, and we are still very much working within Government restrictions.
On 20th August 2020, the South East Women’s Lacrosse Association will hold an AGM, allowing members to vote on what the start of the season will look like. More information on the proposal can be found here.
Clapham Lacrosse have appointed a Covid-19 officer who, along with the rest of the committee, will ensure that the club follows correct procedures around minimising the risk of infection between players, coaches and officials. This will involve sharing information with the rest of the club, ensuring we are acting in line with Government guidance and keeping a log of all players at each training session and match for contact tracing purposes.
Once we have established the best way to safely get back to training, we will update this page with more information. In the meantime, if you’re thinking about joining Clapham for the upcoming season, or would like any further information, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with one of our committee members via the Contact us page. We can’t wait to get back on the field!
